… Banville's new novel breaks taboo around underage sex - Books, Entertainment - Independent.ie. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)
I remember a friend telling me once long ago how he had had a fling with, I believe, a teacher of his when he was about 15. He was mature for his years and, so far as I know, nothing bad came of it for either of them. There was no coercion involved and, I gather, considerable discretion.
There have been two films on this subject that I have thought might not get produced today. "Summer of 42" and "Tea and Sympathy."
ReplyDeleteI loved "42". "T&S" bored me to distraction.
Hi Frank, I wonder if a boy of 15 can really be mature beyond his years. After all, how much of the world can he have possibly seen? Maybe it's me, but I find the idea of romancing teachers distinctly distasteful.
ReplyDeleteHe only flirted with it (no pun intended), but I was a little surprised at a bit of sexual subtext in Wes Anderson's Moonlight Kingdom.
ReplyDeleteI can only report what I was told, Vikram. I haven't had any experience in that line myself. I confess I would be more bothered by a male teacher and a female student than the reverse. My bad.
