I've just finished Juan Pablo Villalobos's Down the Rabbit Hole. I don't want to say too much (because I'll be reviewing the book for Rain Taxi), but: wow, this is a pretty incredible first novel. It's not a perfect book, but as contemporary fiction goes, this portrait of contemporary Mexico is up there. Congratulations to Villalobos on a memorable and awakening novel. The praise he and his work have garnered is certainly justified.
