For the defense …

… Missing the point on Jack Kerouac - latimes.com. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)


… for me, it all comes back to freedom, the freedom to be yourself on the page. That’s what Kerouac stood for, and it’s also why he continues to linger with us, especially among younger readers, nearly half a century after his death.
If you were a working-class high school kid into reading back in the '50s Kerouac was a most attractive figure.
