Lots of terminological confusion when the subject of anarchism is raised. The word means "without a chief." Apparently, a lot of people think that we all need to be led by somebody, and if you're talking about a project involving some complex organization, it tends to be true that some leadership is likely to be required. But there are different kinds of anarchism. Remember that Marxism was supposed to bring about the withering away of the state. So it was grounded in anarchism. The soundest anarchist theory, I think, is Kropotkin's notion of mutual aid, people coming together to pursue a common end. We see it all the time, though the tendency among many to seek power is usually a problem. But let's flip the matter. What exactly has the state achieved throughout history? Certainly not peace. In fact, it is is the principal source of collective violence that we know of.
