Call me an unrepentant, ultraconservative, killjoy Luddite, but I cannot embrace rap as poetry. It may be rhythmic, rhyming versification, but there is a HUGE difference between versification and poetry. Shall we really teach rap lyrics as poetry in university English departments or high school classrooms? Egads! Wordsworth and Dickinson would be horrified.
