A disposable past …

… Against the Anthology | The American Conservative. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

It is one thing to seek and find the best the past has to offer and to make oneself worthy of it, and quite another to adapt the past to the whims of ideology and fashion.

  1. Pushing aside the canonical authors so that room can be made for unproven flavors-of-the-day sickens and angers me. But such is the condition of things in education and publishing. However, I fight back this way: when forced to use any of the newer, politically-correct, inclusive anthologies, I simply ignore the new kids on the block and the conscience-salving second-rate writers. Long live the canonical authors!
