… beyond eastrod: Why Johnny cannot write a simple sentence . . . (i.e., American students are ignorant!)


If someone hired me to teach something, but objected to honest judgment of the students' progress, I'd say fine, and focus on the third that seems to be learning something, and especially on the one standout student.

  1. But when the objectors insist upon dishonest grades that will permit advancement of failing students, then the ethical dilemma gets ugly.

  2. True. But can the genuine students who are there afford to lose the kind of teacher they need? (This must come of my Jesuit training.)
