Which brings to mind the classic statement by Sen. Hruska, on the nomination of Judge Carswell, widely seen as mediocre at best, to the Supreme Court: ''Even if he were mediocre,'' the Senator said,''there are a lot of mediocre judges and people and lawyers. They are entitled to a little representation, aren't they, and a little chance? We can't have all Brandeises, Frankfurters and Cardozos.''
