Hmm …

Sonsy' campaign launched to preserve endangered American words | Books | The Guardian. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)



I'm not familiar with any of them, and most seem to be regional locutions. Still, it would be sad to see them go.

  1. Alvin Kernan, who I gather was mostly raised in Wyoming, but perhaps a native of Georgia, used "popskull" in his memoir of WW II naval service, Crossing the Line. To "bag" something, as to avoid it, is or was recently current. I may have heard "tow sack", but that's about all I recognize from the list. The problem with projects like this is that one can sound like a re-enactor.
