The nerve of the French government, lowering the speed limit on rural roads to 50 mph! The change was made protect the hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists struck by speeding automobiles in rural France each year. I’m not surprised that this Parisian blogger apparently either doesn’t know or doesn’t care about something that afflicts la France profonde. Funny how your Trumpist pals assume the point of view of the urban elite on this issue.
I linked to it because I had seen nothing like in the media here. I also don't think that principal objection has to do with the speed limit. There seem to be other issues as well. Awfully intense whatever the reason. And yes, I do have pals who are Trumpists. I also have pals who are quite leftwing. I try to get along with people and not reduce them to categories. Amazing what you can learn that way.
According to Reuters (not, to the best of my knowledge, particularly Trumpian):While the protests were initially against Macron’s fuel tax hikes - necessary he says to combat climate change - they have also mined a vein of deep dissatisfaction felt toward his liberal reforms, which many voters feel favor the wealthy and big business. His unyielding response has exposed him to charges of being out of touch with common folk outside of France’s big cities who worry about the squeeze on household budgets and job security.
