Ode on the Facelifting of the "statue" of Liberty by Edward Dorn | Poetry Foundation. (Hat tip, Rus Bowden.)
A couple of years ago, when a doctor put me on a blood-thinner for awhile, I whined, "You mean I have to take another pill?' She asked me how many pills I took. I told her this new one would be the third, if you include a baby aspirin. She then asked me, "How old are you?" So I took it, wore a heart monitor for a month, was found to be OK, and now I only take the blood pressure pill. As usual, out of step.
