… Media Predictions of “Tiny Crowd” For Trump July 4 Speech Proven Spectacularly Wrong – Summit News.

This is what happens when let yourself get in the way of reporting. I blame journalism school and goofy movies about journalists.

  1. But the Summit News report is the false news, or it does not cite any article that actually predicts a low turn out. Here is the Independent article that is cited as an example of a media prediction of low turn-out, which it isn't: Trump officials 'fear embarrassingly tiny crowd' for his Fourth of July speech. In fact, there is nothing critical of the president or what was then the upcoming 4th event. It's a bland blurby report, meant to bring especially foreigners up to date on what would be happening -- spreading the news for the event.

Evidently, the president's own aides had voiced concerns over a low turn out, and we know this would be a valid concern for an aide, after the his sparse inauguration crowd. Is it the Washington Post article that The Summit should have cited? Anyway, here are the first few paragraphs of the Sharman piece:

"Donald Trump‘s aides fear an embarrassingly small crowd may turn out for his tradition-shattering Fourth of July address in Washington DC, according to a report.

"The White House has been trying to ensure a high number of attendees in the face of potentially poor weather and a free concert at the far end of the National Mall from the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Post reported.

"Crowd size has been a sore point for Mr Trump, who has repeatedly claimed in the face of the evidence that attendance at his inauguration was the highest ever.

"The president is set to speak in front of a ticket-only crowd of Republican donors, administration and campaign officials, family members and those who gather to either hear him or protest his policies."

My takeaway is that the staff in charge of crowd promotion watched The Blues Brothers movie or something, and rounded up a sizable crowd.
