… The Two Popes Problem | The American Spectator. (Hat tip, Dave Luul.)
Would the Jesuits write such an editorial if Benedict were making heterodox comments in line with the “reforms and pastoral emphases of Pope Francis”? No, that would presumably contribute to the “life and unity of the Church,” in their view.See also: In new biography, Benedict XVI laments modern 'anti-Christian creed'. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)
So the problem for the Jesuits is the same as the one for the left-wing media: Benedict’s orthodoxy.
I graduated from a Jesuit college. My confessor, who just passed away, was a Jesuit. The Jesuits who figured in my education were people like Karl Rahner, Bernard Lonergan, Henri de Lubac, Hans Urs von Balthsar. The order doesn’t seem to have anybody of that caliber anymore, least of the all ninny who currently occupies The Papal throne.
