I believe Pennsylvania is a part of the Northeast and I have always heard aunt pronounced ant. Ahhnt has always sounded pretentious in these parts.

  1. In the summers of my childhood, we regularly saw two or three aunts in western Pennsylvania. We and everyone else said "ant". I never heard the other until about 40 years ago in Washington, DC, and I don't think I hear it much.
