I'm not a big modernized country music fan. Some is okay, like what Linda Ronstadt was doing, Johnny Cash, etc, and then true blue country rooted in where the early blues was.
It's a good time for line dancing, which I haven't done in years. In her late 20s - early 30s, my daughter was on a blue ribbon country dance troupe when she lived in North Carolina. To observe a practice, I had to get special clearance, convincing the leader that I would not give away any of their competitive steps to any other troupe.
But to sit around and listen, the music ruins the lyrics for me. It's pasty and angsty to me, contrived.
Last night, before bed, I was listening to the jazz guitar of Mary Osborne, who would be turning 100 today -- jazz, another US-made music.
My father who passed this year was a remarkable jazz trombonist. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War and did his share of combat, until the Air Force Band came around. He asked and was given permission to sit in. Then was asked to join, which he did.
