Not everyone is so certain. “There are multiple factors that may affect the safety and efficacy of an mRNA vaccine, chemical modification of mRNA is only one of them,” says Bo Ying, chief executive of Suzhou Abogen Biosciences, a Chinese company with an mRNA vaccine for COVID-19 now in late-stage clinical testing. (Known as ARCoV, the product uses unmodified mRNA.)
The article is a success story, with intrigue and delay along the way. It's indeed pro-vax and shows how the mRNA vaccines that passed muster, passed muster. It also slams anyone who says these vaccines, which have been in the works for decades, came out too fast. It's the testing that was expedited, to find out which ones would be safe. In the end, the vaccines turn out to be timely godsends, thank God, that have saved millions of lives and prevented unimaginable and incomprehensible suffering during this pandemic.
ReplyDeleteThe chemical modification that Bo Ying is talking about has nothing to do with the safe vaccines that are being administered today, but the vaccines that his organization is developing that have not been through the rigors of trials yet.
