In 1976, I would have voted for Gerald Ford. I think that Ford was a breathe of fresh air. And he played football at Michigan State. In 1980, I would have voted for John B. Anderson. The story behind Anderson's campaign was that both Reagan and Anderson competed for the Republican nomination. Reagan received the nomination. When Anderson failed to get the Republican nomination he ran as an independent. Anderson ran a centrist campaign. He said that Reagan was too conservative and that Jimmy Carter was a horrible president. Reagan won in 1980. After the 1980 election, Anderson became an obscure figure in American politics. And it's a shame because he is still alive and comments on current events.
