Although I maintain that philosophy needs completion by what is beyond philosophy, that maintenance is not a license to abandon rational critique. Every sector of life requires critique, including Philosophy herself, and Philosophy is the Critic.
Merton’s The Seven Story Mountain meant a great deal to me when I first read it decades ago, as did Bede Griffiths’s The Golden String. But fame seems to have corruptedboth Griffiths and Merton.
