  1. There were never any Irish slaves in the United States. The Irish were indentured servants. There is a difference. An indentured servant will work for their master under contract for 3-5 years. After that time they will be compensated for their work. A slave is a coerced worker that is the property of their owner for an indefinite amount of time. Indentured servants had rights under English common law. Slaves had no right of due process in the American Colonial Legal System.
