My mother grew up in the El Dorado (El Doraydo) area of Altoona, Pennsylvania. The parish was St. Rose of Lima (Lie-ma). Then there's Buena Vista (Buney Vista), Colorado.
But does the French "Londres" or the German "Mailand" more nearly approximate what the locals call those cities?
