A poem

 Elysium Bound

By Jennifer Knox

As surely as Bartok's tones can wrench the heart,

I love you still; do you hear the crash

Of freight trains colliding somewhere?

The moan and groan of wheels in its aftermath?

Once upon a time I loved you well.

Now I love you still. Two female raptors clash

In a fight to the death over a mate.

Hear the wail of love's fury in its aftermath?

People are going about their business

You and I as well. Do you hear the crash

Of freight trains colliding somewhere?

All the angels dragged down in its aftermath?

Be not fussy where love's crumbs can be found,
