Liebestod ...

... the Telegraph today concludes a series it has been running about Assia Weevil, who was the poet Ted Hughes's mistress for six years. Like Hughes first wife, the poet Sylvia Plath, Assia Weevil committed suicide by gassing herself (and their daughter Shura):

Ted Hughes revealed as a domestic tyrant who laid down law to mistress

'I'm going to seduce Ted Hughes'

'Die, die soon. But execute yourself and your little self efficiently…'

This is a sad tale.

    And Hughes' daughter (by Plath), Frieda, has just started a weekly feature column in the Times.
