I won't be an investor in any of these abrdged editions but I do admit that one book I really wished had been a bit more to the point was Moby Dick. The repeated scientific knowledge about whales I felt should have been confined to a separate study if Melville was so interested in such matter. A book I otherwise enjoyed immensely was spoilt for me. I edned up deciding if he goes off in this bloody biological/anatomical/whatever direction again, I'm going to give up on the book. Which of course he did, and so I did. I'll generally give a book a lot of leeway though this was too much for me.
