Last night ...

... a former colleague of mine and I went to see Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields at the Kimmel Center (Debbie couldn't make it). The soloist was a young Curtis grad called Yuja Wang. It was marvelous. Yuja Wang is clearly a talent to watch. Her Mozart Concert No. 24 was alive, not fussy, and her Mendelssohn Concerto No. 1 was dazzling. Marriner was no slouch, either. A perfect accompanist, he also turned in performances of Mozart's "Paris" symphony and Haydn's "London" symphony that were wonderfully robust. I sure hope I look as good as he does of I reach his age (he turns 84 on Tuesday).
