Ten years ago, I interviewed John Polkinghorne. Talking of his decision, at age 43, to resign his chair in physics at Cambridge and study for the Anglican priesthood, he said: "... I worked very much on the mathematical side of physics, and while I think it's not true that mathematical people do their best work before they're 25, most of us do our best work before we're 45. So when . . . that magic birthday neared, I thought it was time for a change."

Dave reminds me that I posted a link to the second article more than a month ago. I must be losing it.
