Fifty Most Talk-Worthy Books

A list of the 50 books touted as the "most worth talking about" was announced today in anticipation of World Book Day, 5 March 2009.

This list leaves me speechless!

  1. I would have picked Jim Dodge's "Not Fade Away" rather than "Fup," but it's nice to see his name on the list, anyway.

I admit I'd read almost none of these. Are they hidden gems that went undiscovered? Are they just not very good? One wonders.

  2. I didn't recognise many of the names, truth be told (which is why I had nothing to say about it except, perhaps, this list came into existence because nobody knows all these writers except the people who made the list).

They're not translations (and, I know that from peeps like Jim Dodge appearing on it; but, really, is it just we? Did all my years an uni mean nothing)?

I consider myself reasonably well-read (and not just mainstreamingly, either). Maybe there are some among us who can tell us otherwise because, right about now, 'm rdy t thrw n th vwl :).
