  2. The pleasure's always mine! RKM, you're not telling me you're not a stylist non-pareil, are you? Nah . . . Please leave me my illusions, delusions, confusions, and effusions ('cause I mean 'em!). 'Sides, "things" don't write as beautifully as you consistently do. (And, you like many of the writers I like — e.g., Larry Watson just crossed my mind — plus, you always have a unique take on 'em, too.

  3. Ah, style. One of my favorite comments on style, though not one I necessarily agree with, is Dashiell Hammett's, to a newspaper interviewer in 1956: “I stopped writing because I was repeating myself. It is the beginning of the end when you discover you have style.”
