Shades of Clouseau ...

... Definitely NOT James Bond.

If memory serves, John Keegan, in Intelligence in War, estimates that military intelligence is correct about half the time. Isn't that the same rate as guessing?Of course, if you guess right in wartime, it can be very much to your advantage.

  1. Frank,

Certainly, we've had our intelligence failures, but the main reason that we have been attacked on U.S. soil since 9/11 is the good work of our intelligence, military and law enforcement agencies. They have been able to identify numerous plots to attack us, and then they stopped them cold.

The key to good intelligence is not only getting the true intel, it's also what you do with that data. How it's distributed, and what actions are then taken is all part and parcel to national security.

We have the finest electronic intelligence the world has every seen, but in this age of computers we still need human sources.

I hope the Obama administration does not slash the intelligence agencies like President Carter, or slash the military like President Clinton.
