For me, acquaintance with Alistair Cooke began with Omnibus, a Sunday afternoon show on NBC TV. One of the episodes (actually, I think it was more than one) was a dramatization of parts of Boswell's Life of Johnson, starring Peter Ustinov as the great doctor - all of it deftly introduced by Mr. Cooke.
