Good for him ...

... Hey, Hey, Hey! Twain Prize Will Go to Bill Cosby. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

  1. Cosby says of his experiences with Twain: "After bathing us, dressing us in fresh pajamas, and setting us into the crib together, Annie Pearl Cosby read to my brother James and me 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,' and later 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,' " said Cosby.

With respect to the second novel, there must be an interesting story in there somewhere about the Cosby's reactions to Twain's diction, especially the racially derogatory diction that has forced the novel off of so many school library shelves in the last quarter century.

Somewhere in whatever the Cosby's story might be, modern audiences might find some better guidance about how to read and respond to Twain's novel instead of banning it because of offensive language.

    Well, it's just a thought.

And, by the way, I have always had the greatest respect for Mr. Cosby. Any honor for him is well-deserved.
