Remembering Mr. Maugham ...

Maugham's The Painted Veil is also rather good, and art critic John Canaday thought The Moon and Sixpence was a better take on Gauguin than many more serious biographies. We went to see The Constant Wife a couple of years ago and it was great theater (it was also a hit), but I think Maugham's best work is his short stories.
