I've just finished Jerry Gabriel's masterful collection of stories,
Drowned Boy. My advice (and this from a skeptic of the Short Story): buy this book as soon as you can. What Gabriel has done represents the modernization of Sherwood Anderson's
classic,
Winesburg, Ohio. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
I agree with you, Jesse. I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing DROWNED BOY for ForeWord Magazine (and the review appears in the current issue). The threaded themes that connect the stories are strengthened by Gabriel's crisp, clear prose and his deft management of characterizations. DROWNED BOY is my answer to everyone who asks, "Have you read any really good books lately?"

Dear R.T.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments - which are right on target!

I'm with the crowd. I just posted a review last weekend on my own blog that took a whole lot more words to say what Jesse did. Drowned Boy is great.
