This says a heck of a lot more about the gallery world than about Liebovitz, or about any other photographer or artist. It's such an insular world, in which artists always make more money after they're dead (when they don't need it anymore). It's a ridiculous world in many ways, because a lot of quality art never even gets looked at or displayed, precisely because they don't think they can sell it.
Don't ever be fooled by thinking the art gallery is ever about art; it's all really about money. As such, it doesn't really serve artists, it just serves itself.
