  1. Half of me thinks this review is on target, and half of me thinks it missed the point completely.

    The dismissal of Adam Fuss' viewpoint leaves me similarly divided. In fact, Fuss' comments are somewhat pretentious, but they're also dead accurate. That they could be so easily dismissed and mocked tells me that the reviewer has never actually had anything like a life-challenging experience upon which to base his opinion. The fact is, despite my own dislike for "as only as therapy," which in fact I wrote about earlier this week, Fuss' basic point is correct: sometimes making art is the only reason you have to keep going. I've been there myself.

    So, not knowing the backstory of the reviewer's own biases, I take this all with a salt shaker in hand.
