This has been a problem for some time, and not just with jazz. In fact, contemporary classical composers in particular have long since, in many cases, forgotten how to write for people who aren't composers or critics.

Speaking as a composer, I generally agree.
ReplyDeleteAnd the problem is doubled or worse for poets, who have for the most part actively driven their audiences away by writing only for each other. And being proud of that.
As a writer, sadly, I have to agree with Art. And it's a shame. Poetry has been given such a bad name that many readers won't even try a poetry that's different.
