  2. I can't agree that Auden is over-rated, I give you Miranda, as beautiful a poem as their is in the language. And pure beauty is what any poet worthy of the name aims for.

  3. I agree with you about Auden, Frank, although I think one might point out that Auden's other chief mode was the prophetic, even the sociopolitical, which he also did well. Beyond pure beauty in poetry there is also the truth-telling. One thinks of Neruda, Ginsberg, Jeffers, and others, along those lines.
