Hmm …

… Boston Review — Marjorie Perloff: Poetry on the Brink. (Ht tip, Rus Bowden.)


I'm not sure the lyric needs to be reinvented. Writing good ones has always been enough. But I do think this poses  problem: "The colleges and universities that offer graduate degrees in poetry employ about 1,800 faculty members to support the cause." Turning poetry into one more academic discipline just doesn't sound right to me.Somehow most poets in history have managed to pursue their art without getting a degree in it.
