Another one …

  1. Technically, from the sample, that just goes over the line into plagiarism, and ultimately may not qualify. That paragraph is less a creative work and more a statement of facts. If there were some catchy catch phrases, and a curious turn of thought or perspective, then it would be plagiarism.

    Also, to put intent into perspective, Zakaria would surely have known that being so close to Lepore's work would have thrown up red flags.

    I am thinking that Zakaria read Lepore's work when it came out, but did not realize his text was so close to what he had read on the subject some weeks earlier.
