Back 25 years ago, I used to be disgusted by the articles talking about how the Flats in Cleveland were all cleaned up to be a lovely restaurant district by the river. They were, I guess, but the smokestack industries the restaurants succeeded had provided well-paid employment to thousands of blue collar workers. Cleveland was cool, I decided, once it had joined the new American economy of yuppies and waiters.
