 As the ad used to say, you don't have to be Jewish to love Rosen's Rye Bread; neither, allow me to testify, do you have to be Catholic to love the fiction of J.F. Powers.

    On my block outside Cleveland, we all were out in the back yards together. To be sure, most of us were Catholic, though not all.

    And is "Father Bryan D'Arcy" a mistake for Father Martin D'Arcy, or was there such a person?
