There are states of mind during which discursive thought ceases and one simply has impressions — of the closet door, of yellow her and red there, and how the light discloses the mood of it all and one simply knows it is both real and utterly, incomprehensibly mysterious, beyond any theory or hypothesis, something we can only watch as it happens. At such times mere reason seems wholly inadequate for grasping reality.
