Escape from Utopia …

With the enormous success of the Harry PotterTwilight, and Hunger Games films, Hollywood has been busy adapting books written for the young adult audience. The most recent example is the movie version of The Giver, which was produced by Jeff Bridges and which stars Bridges and Meryl Streep.
When  I was The Inquirer's book editor, the paper had  a biweekly column  written by Katie Haegele that was likely the only one in the country devoted to young adult fiction. But my managerial betters decided we didn't need. That was one reason I quit.
