Virtucrats sometimes seem to predominate on the left—the left is the side of the heart, the old political aphorism has it, the right that of the spleen—but they do so far from exclusively. Virtucrats are plentiful on both sides of the political spectrum. The liberal virtucrat is for social justice, security, innovation; the conservative virtucrat for liberty, enterprise, tradition. The former considers the latter heartless, the latter considers the former na�ve.
