I suspect it began in the late 1940's with the fear of communist influence in our society. We have been hounded by political correctness ever since that time.
ReplyDeleteOh, you can trace it back farther than that, to the Stalinist/Trotskyite civil war in the '30s. And the treatment that Elia Kazan got at the Academy Awards one demonstrated that politics cause a lot of people to turn out like the Bourbons, who were said to have forgotten nothing and learned nothing.
