For poetry month …

… Having a Coke with You: Illustrated by Nathan Gelgud - Signature Reads. (Hat tip, Paul Davis.)

It’s funny to come to O’Hara by way of the Beats, because in a way he’s their opposite. He celebrates the everyday without celebrating it. He just writes about it. This gives special oomph to the incident at a poetry reading when Kerouac accused O’Hara of ruining poetry, and O’Hara responded (coolly, I’m sure), “That’s more than you ever did for it.”
Great comeback.
