The Greatest Books is a blog that ranks...yes you've got it. The blog, which may or may not still be kept up, is fascinating for at least two reasons besides content: 1) it allows you to look at ranking by time period -- what were the greatest books, say, between 1970 and 1980; and 2) it contain links to many other lists of great books, which it uses to calculate its own rankings.
The results are bizarre and don't seem to make any kind of sense!
ReplyDeleteCharles Murray's ranking of authors (and, implicitly, their greatest workds) in Human Accomplishment, by contrast, seems far more coherent and can be understood even when not agreed with:
