FYI …

… We All Speak American - WSJ. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

The continual refreshment of Menckenian touches throughout the three volumes of The American Language helps make it the lively work it is. As Jacques Barzun wrote, in a review in the Atlantic of the first Supplement volume, what made the book “so accessible and hence so influential was its enormous literary skill and vigilant cultural criticism.” It is also tremendously amusing.
