  1. Fifty-odd years ago, my father surprised someone with the remark that were he sheriff of Cuyahoga County, he'd close down every bingo game out there. But the state has long since gone into the business of lotteries.

    I do think that NR might have done well to give an inflation-adjusted number. These days, $400 sounds like a mess of pottage; in 1975 it was about it was about five and half weeks' work at minimum wage.
