I think that it would be candid to acknowledge that college tuition has gotten out of hand. In my day, forty years ago, a summer job at the minimum wage would cover tuition, fees, and much of room and board at a state college. Now, forget it.
I would add that publicly supported colleges are older than the republic--Thomas Jefferson attended William and Mary in his youth.
