The bishops could have relieved parishioners of the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday, and even advised those in higher risk groups to stay home. Otherwise, change nothing. Let those who wish to attend, attend. Keep the churches open. Though I am certifiably elderly, I would have attended. I might even have gone every day.
As I see it, church officials demonstrated that they have more faith in politicians, “experts,” and the media than they do in God.
